Hello, dear friends, and welcome back to Scraps N Pieces Blog! A new challenge has just started, and this time it’s all about the magical world of books! Old and new, big or small, novels, fairy tales, historical, romantic, fascinating…just think of how many adjectives you can use to describe them. Well, that alone tells us how glorious books are!

I was totally inspired by this new mood board and decided to create something vintage and mystical, at the same time, using the color scheme and the elements from the board. The notebook is in size A5 and the cover is made from scratch. This time I played it hard and used tons of mixed media materials :) It took me several days to create the notebook because I just couldn't stop until I was completely satisfied with it. But it was a very pleasing creative process.

As a base for the cover, I used pieces of cardstock. First, I applied black gesso, and then a combination of texture paste, sand paste, crackle texture paste. To color it, I used acrylic paints, alcohol inks, and crackle varnish. I also did some stamping. The front cover is decorated with patterned paper, metallic embellishments, chipboard, beads, brads, and textile hydrangea flowers.

The inside covers are decorated with patterned paper by 7 Dots Studio. Their "Garden Party" collection suits our mood board 100 % :) Plus, I did some stamping and used a single 19th Century biology book page that I had kept on my shelf for ages.

Такие работы надо делать именно для себя, я считаю, ну или для очень уж ревностных поклонников вашего творчества. Этот junk journal вышел очень личным. Мне совсем скоро стукнет 35, и я решила сделать к своему полу-юбилею что-то такое, что сохранило бы в моей памяти этот год.

ENG For our 3rd stage of the Magic School 3, I decided to create a junk journal using the 7 Dots Studio collection "Writer´s Block". I got it as a prize from Tusia Lech when the very first Magic School was finished :) This particular junk book is very personal. It is just mine and no one else´s: I dedicate it to the year 2018 which is the year I turn 35.

Я наполнила журнал своими гранжево-романтическими фотографиями, сделанными этим летом - пусть останутся на память о 2018 году не только в дигитальном виде, но и хоть где-то на бумаге. Так же использовала любимые миксмедийные приемы и кое-какой декор. Внутри я также оставила свободные места для записей и возможных новых вкладок - конструкция на кольцах и застежка со встроенной резинкой позволят при надобности добавить в журнал что-то еще. Еще в журнал я включила несколько цветных страниц из скрап-бумаги, которые послужат в дальнейшем основой для художественных коллажей. То есть это еще и артбук, куда я планирую еще в этом году успеть добавить несколько плоских скраповых работ.

ENG This book is also a kind of photo album, so I filled it with my personal romantic and grungy pictures shot this summer. They are meant to commemorate me at this point in my life. I also used some favorite mixed media techniques and some embellishments, alongside the more or less blank surfaces for possible later additions. I have also inserted some clean patterned paper sheets inside the junk journal because I still plan to add some more creativity to it this year. I will probably make some flat collages on those layouts, turning this minialbum-like book into an art book too.

Hi!

I made a masculine mixed media notebook and recorded the whole process on film. The notebook was a gift to my colleague, a male metal objects conservator at the museum I work. He was really delighted to get such a thoughtful gift and promised not to write in this notebook but to treasure it as a piece of art :( That was not what I wanted, of course! I prefer my creations to be used, but this was his decision :)
